II. Differents between Tubes2 and Tubes2 Open edition

Tubes2

 + It is a cheap electron tube catalog.
 + There are one kind of installer package for FreeBSD, two kinds for DOS, three kinds for Windows and six kinds for Linux.
 + You can buy more kinds of licence.
 + It uses plain and encoded (edf/cedf or xedf/cxedf) datafiles.
 + Tubes2's database updates monthly.
 + You can update datafiles from internet.
 - Source code is not available.
 * You can use this version under terms of EULA (PDF).

Tubes2 Open edition

 + You can use it for free.
 + There are two kinds of installer package for DOS and FreeBSD, three kinds for Windows and seven kinds for Linux.
 + Source code is available.
 + Doesn't request serial number and product key.
 + You can update datafiles from internet.
 - It uses plain (edf or xedf) datafiles only.
 - Tubes2 Open edition's database updates only one times on year.
 *  You can use, redistribute and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU GPL 3.0 or later (PDF).

III. How to get product key?

   If you want to request product key for your packed product or buy licence for downloaded application, fill out and send this on-line form. (There is Disc ID in disc.id file on root directory of installer disc.)

IV/4. Tubes2 for DOS (only differents)

Differents in directory of program
There is a new subdirectory here: copy your product key file to REG_KEY, suggested filename is tubes2.key.

After copy, edit CONFIG\TUBES2.CFG to set product key filename and serial number (Disc ID):

  # Product key filename without path
  #
  PK=tubes2.key

  # Serial number
  #
  SN=000000-000000-000000

If product key file and/or serial number (Disc ID) is invalid, Tubes2 writes warning about it and halts.
